The Best Ice Cream East and West

I asked my friend Laura, who is about as deep in the food world as you can get, what her favorite ice cream is in LA, and she immediately said "Sweet Rose Creamery in the Brentwood Country Mart". So we had to go and try. It was fantastic, and I would put that on a must-stop on an LA bucket list.

It reminded me of our other favorite ice cream shop in Brooklyn, Ample Hills Creamery, on Vanderbilt, in Prospect Heights. Both have a sense of humor, are not super self-conscious, and somehow their personality comes out in the ice cream. I had a cotton-candy ice cream at Ample Hills, and I don't even like cotton candy, and I swear the experience was so electric I was totally transported back to being at some fair, on a ferris wheel. Both shops use organic ingredients, and both are very generous with giving out tastes, which is very nice, when every single one is intriguing.

  3. I love Ample Hills I had them for the first time at opening day of Hester st. fair and fell in love with the salted crack caramel. My Hubby and I took our boys to Max and Mina's for the 1st time this past weekend after seeing Madagascar 3 and thought it be only fitting that one of us have the Circus flavor {cotton candy and bubblegum} which was off the hook delish! If you are ever in Kew gardens, you should try they have awesome flavors like "champagne"! Great post

My girl turned four on Tuesday, and she has 10 stamps in her passport. I've committed to traveling with her like you have Clara, and this is such inspiration.
